Litter Campaign

The Parish Council launched its ‘Bin it’ Litter Campaign in March 2009 with an exhibition and prizegiving for a poster competition which was entered by children from five schools within the community.  Winning posters were displayed around the village for the summer.  People were asked to think about the effects of dropping litter on the environment with an emphasis on the time it takes for different pieces of litter to decompose.  The damage litter can do to wildlife was highlighted and the health and safety aspects were enlightening to adults and children who saw the exhibition in schools and at the Village Fun Day.

Most of the shopkeepers in the village have signed up to be ‘My Patch Guardians’ to look after the area outside their shops and keep them litter-free.  Local businesses are also involved.  Some villagers have also volunteered to be ‘My Patch Guardians’.   Many already collect litter, others are finding it rewarding to keep their patch clean.
